The Mantra of the OORR brand is 'Performance wear for the planet'. Demanding performance from your apparel shouldn't cost the earth - and we're not talking dollars here. OORR is proof that using recycled products does not mean you must sacrifice performance, comfort or style. With OORR, you can get ahead of the peloton, break free from your own limitations, and get Out Of the Rat Race with a crystal clear conscience.
The mission -
To create beautiful apparel and accessories using recycled and/or sustainable resources.
To challenge consumer perception of recycled materials, and change purchasing habits, effecting a shift in the broader market towards production that is good for the planet.
To contribute part of our profit to aid social and environmental causes.
The Name -
Out Of the Rat Race. You might want to break free of the shackles of society and experience the freedom and breathtaking majesty of the road in solitude. Words from Tim - Director and Founder of OORR
"After becoming sick and tired of being target practice for Sydney drivers, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create some jerseys with a message - gimme some space! After a little research I found that several other companies had already turned this idea into reality. During my search however, I discovered some alternative fabrics were becoming available to the market that could benefit us all.
Appealing to my inner greeny (and want for my children to inherit a better, cleaner earth), I decided to search for some eco fabrics suitable for use in cycling. I soon learned that no one was doing recycled fabric jerseys off the rack - a fact I could hardly believe. (just try to find them anywhere else!)
Additionally, the fabric that was available was uncomfortable, and didn't look great either.
What followed was my mission to develop a jersey of better quality than anything currently available from your big brands, and to do it using recycled materials. My focus had completely adjusted from one small idea, to a vision to change the way the whole industry does business - why could all of our apparel not be made with recycled materials? The potential is there, and the starting products are identical.
After months and months of searching for someone (or anyone!) who could produce small batch knits for testing my fabric, I finally made it happen. We produced some world class fabrics, and I chose the best for the first jersey. The flagship jersey had to be tough, high performance, wearable year-round and look classy.
The next part of the journey has been the most challenging – turning that fabric into an OORRsome quality jersey. Initially I had dreams of creating the jersey entirely within Australia and New Zealand. After a few months of drawing blanks on manufacturers down-under, reality set in. It seems all of the expertise in this industry is in Asia, so my extensive testing of manufacturers overseas began. I have dozens upon dozens of rubbish jerseys clogging up wardrobes in my house!
Eventually I stumbled across the real deal, and spent the next 8 months refining the look and fit for what would eventually become the OORRiginal jersey- the result? I'll let you be the judge." (Hint- it's OORRsome)
Bringing technical knowledge of cooling and aerodynamics from my background as an airline pilot, coupled with great attention to detail, I am turning my ideas and ideologies into reality for the benefit of us all.
We are currently developing a wider range of jersey styles and will be including bibs in the near future, and options for women. These will be released to market following success of the OORRiginal.
If you have any specific requests for your cycling apparel, or know of another Eco product that we can incorporate going forward, then get in touch. We firmly believe in working with our customers to develop the best products for everyone, including our future generations.
